The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (Minister PARK Bo Gyoon, MCST), the Publication Industry Promotion Agency of Korea (President KIM Jun-hee, KPIPA) and the Korea Publishers Association (President YOON Cheol-Ho, KPA) to showcase the prowess of Korean children’s book authors on a global stage and boost the export and globalization of Korean picture books during the Bologna Children’s Book Fair in Italy from March 6 (Mon) to 9 (Thurs).

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (Minister PARK Bo Gyoon, MCST) and the Korea Tourism Organization (President KIM Jang sil, KTO) recognized Jeongseon-gun as the first ‘Wellness Tourism City of the Year’ for Korea’s local tourism industry by offering travelers with healing experiences. The ‘Wellness Tourism City of the Year’ program, launched this year, is designed to mend the hearts of Korean and international travelers who have been worn down by the COVID-19 pandemic and boost local economies by promoting the growth of the wellness tourism industry. The regions selected for the program work with the MCST and KTO to develop tourism products inspired by local wellness tourism resources while also implementing related annual events and laying the groundwork for the industry to continue expanding even after the program ends.

City of Culture, the Local Contents Incubator Driving Local Development

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MCST) announced on February 23 (Thur) that Seogwipo-si (Mayor LEE Jong Woo) was selected as the City of Culture of the Year and reported the 2022 achievements of the Cities of Culture at Seogwipo KAL Hotel. Together with the City of Culture Deliberation Committee (Chaired by JEONG Gap Young), MCST reviewed the performance of 18 Cities of Culture that operated the City of Culture Development Project in 2022 and selected the five best cities that have led balanced development through culture: Seogwipo city, Cheongju city, Chuncheon city, Wanju county, and Miryang county. Seogwipo city was selected as the first City of Culture of the Year to represent these Best Cities of Culture.

Gold medalist LEE Sang-hwa and JIN Jong-oh appointed as the Presidents of the 2024 Gangwon Winter Youth Olympic Games

The 2024 Gangwon Winter Youth Olympic Games’ 2nd Organizing Committee is launched to prepare for the upcoming event. Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism PARK Bo Gyoon attended the inauguration ceremony of the 2nd Organizing Committee held at the Korea Press Center on February 21 (Tue) and awarded a letter of appointment to LEE Sang-hwa and JIN Jong-oh, the two new presidents appointed through the general meeting of the organizing committee. Minister PARK also presented letters of appointment to newly appointed two vice presidents, eleven executive members, and two auditors.

Agreement to continue cooperation after the three successful Olympics in Korea, Japan and China and Agreed to actively support the 2024 Gangwon Youth Winter Olympics

The Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism PARK Bo Gyoon together with the Minister of Education, Science and Technology of Japan, Keiko Nagaoka, and the Deputy Minister of the General Administration of Sports of China, Zhou Jinqiang, organized the 4th Korea-Japan-China Sports Ministers’ Meeting and announced the 2023 Seoul Joint Declaration on February 9 (Thur). The joint declaration reflected the experience as the host country of the past Olympic Games and led discussion on further spreading the Olympic spirit and building a sustainable sports environment. This year’s meeting, hosted by Korea, was held as a video conference in consideration of each country's response to COVID-19.
