Korean Art Market Sales Surpass KRW 1 Trillion

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (Minister PARK Bo Gyoon, MCST) of the Republic of Korea announced its estimates of the value of the Korean art market in 2022 together with Korea Arts Management Service (President MOON Yeongho, KAMS) Despite the ongoing pandemic and the global economic slowdown last year, the domestic art market reached the highest-ever value of artwork in circulation at KRW 1.0377 trillion, or 37.2% higher than the KRW 756.3 billion from the 2021 factual survey of the art market. By sector, the sales at art fairs and art galleries increased while those at auctions decreased.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (Minister PARK Bo Gyoon, MCST) hosted the “2023 New Year’s Concert” at the Concert Hall of Seoul Arts Center at 7:00 p.m. on January 4, in celebration of the Year of the Rabbit.

The National Museum of Korean Contemporary History Renews Its Permanent Exhibition from “Independence and Division” to “Independence and the Establishment of the ROK Government”

The National Museum of Korean Contemporary History (Director NAM Hee Suk, MUCH) announced that the History Gallery on its fifth floor has renewed its permanent exhibition under the new theme of “Independence and the Establishment of the ROK Government” and unveiled the new exhibition on December 13, 2022. This second new exhibition marks a comprehensive renewal following last July’s first partial exhibition change in the “The Korean War” section.

The Blue House Now Becomes a Venue for Literary Exhibition from Dec 22

The Chunchugwan (Blue House), the place where the first exhibition by the disabled artists was held in September, now becomes a place for Literary Exhibition to welcome visitors. The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (Minister PARK Bo Gyoon, MCST) together with the National Museum of Korean Literature, Samseong Museum of Publishing, and YongIn Museum of Literature will hold A Special Exhibition on “YI Sang, YEOM Sang-seop, HYUN Jin-geon, YUN Dong-ju, Wander Cheong Wa Dae” at the second floor of the Chuchugwan[1] from December 22 (Thur) to January 16 (Mon) next year.
