The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (Minister CHAE Hwi-young, MCST) and the Ministry of Science and ICT(MSIT) in collaboration with the Korea Creative Content Agency and the National IT Industry Promotion Agency, will host the AI Video Content Contest in celebration of the 2025 APEC Summit from September 1 (Monday) to 22 (Monday).

Global creators aged 18 or higher invited to submit generative AI-driven video content inspired by Korean culture to highlight the values of APEC

In light of this year’s APEC Summit, MCST will host the New Technology Convergence Content Global Festival, an event to highlight the convergence of  Korean culture with cutting-edge technology. The festival is intended to reinforce Korea’s image as a leader in advanced technology while bringing renewed local and global attention to APEC’s core values. As part of the global festival, the contest invites creators to submit works produced with generative AI solutions under the theme “A Sustainable Tomorrow through Contemporary Reinterpretations  of Korean Culture.” Three- to five-minute video content entries incorporating APEC’s core values—Connect, Innovate, Prosper— can be entered in one of two categories: general video (including media art and film), and  music videos.

The contest is also open to K-culture fans around the world. Any creator aged 18 or older, whether in Korea or abroad, with an interest in Korean culture or the convergence of culture and AI technology, is welcome to participate. The Culture ministry will globally promote the contest through its network of 35 Korean Cultural Centers, its King Sejong Institutes, KOCCA’s overseas business centers, and MSIT’s international IT support centers. Participants may freely draw inspiration from a wide range of sources, including traditional Shilla legends and the cultural heritage of Gyeongju—the city to host the APEC Summit—or hangeul, folk games, and hanbok, which have become increasingly familiar to global audiences through K-content such as Squid Games and K-Pop Demon Hunters.

Korean companies providing generative AI video production tooling services are also collaborating to organize the upcoming contest. To encourage creators from diverse backgrounds to take part in the contest, MSIT and the National IT Industry Promotion Agency (NIPA) will provide support for creators who use domestic generative AI production services. Participants who submit entries produced with domestic generative AI-based video, audio, or music creation services will be eligible for a reimbursement of up to KRW 100,000 for service fees (for up to 500 participants). For the duration of the contest (September 1–22), Carot (a Korean generative AI-based video and audio production service operated by Paradot) will introduce a special product with an unlimited video-generation package, while AI STUDIOS (operated by DeepBrain) will offer additional AI usage credits to customers who register via the dedicated contest link.

Grand winners to receive awards from the ministers of MCST and MSIT, with special exhibitions on new technology-based content to include award-winning contest entries

Detailed contest information for participants is available through the KOCCA website (www.kocca.kr). Entries can be submitted between September 1 (Monday) and 22 (Monday). Each of the two grand prize winners (one for the general video category and one for the music video category) will receive the MCST Minister Award and MSIT Minister Award.

Furthermore, MCST will host an APEC-linked Special Exhibition for New Tech Generated Content at the K-Culture Museum in Terminal 1, Incheon International Airport, at the end of October. The exhibition will offer a unique opportunity to both domestic and international travelers to experience and enjoy award-winning entries from the contest alongside other innovative content created with new emerging technologies.
