The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (Minister YU In Chon, MCST) will launch the second edition of “Local 100” project (2026–2027) to identify and promote Korea’s representative regional cultural assets in collaboration with the public. Beginning from July 1, the ministry is accepting recommendations from the public for hidden cultural gems in their neighborhoods, which will serve as candidates for the second round of “Local 100.”

“Local 100” is a cultural initiative aimed at uncovering the unique charm of local communities and highlighting the value of regional culture nationwide. In 2023, the first edition of the project selected 100 sites and cultural assets from 461 candidates recommended by Korea’s 226 local governments and the ministry’s Youth Advisory Group.

The 2nd Local 100 To Be Selected Through Public and Local Government Recommendations, Online Voting, and a Screening Process

This year’s new edition of Local 100 significantly expands opportunities for public participation, engaging in citizens to both nominate candidates and take part in the selection process. Eligible nominations include distinctive cultural assets rooted in local culture. These range from everyday cultural spaces—such as museums, independent bookstores, traditional markets, and cultural streets—to local festivals, performances, hands-on programs, and regional brands. All types of unique local cultural assets may be recommended, and anyone in Korea, regardless of age or region, is welcome to submit a nomination. The culture ministry plans to actively promote the 2nd Local 100 throughout 2026 and 2027, showcasing the charm and diversity of Korea’s regional cultural.
