Preparations Are Underway for Gangwon 2024 Winter Youth Olympic Games with New Ambassadors and Cultural Event Director Group

 - The MCST announced the opening ceremony concept of “Bringing the World Together in K-Culture and Sports”

 

The Gangwon 2024 Organising Committee has newly appointed five ambassadors, two members of the Cultural Event Director Group, and six members of the Advisory Group, as part of its efforts to prepare for the Gangwon 2024 Winter Youth Olympic Games, which is just 300 days ahead. On March 24 (Fri), Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MCST) PARK Bo Gyoon attended the appointment ceremony at Seoul Olympic Parktel to present the appointment certificates to members of the Cultural Event Advisory Group in person. JIN Jong Oh and LEE Sang Hwa, who chair the Organising Committee, presented appointment certificates to members of the Cultural Event Director Group and new ambassadors, respectively.

 

“These distinguished stars from the fields of culture, art, and sports will now join the Director Group and the Advisory Group. The five newly appointed ambassadors are also expanding the horizon for K-culture and K-sports,” said the minister, who added, “I look forward to seeing their experience, achievements, challenges, and imagination shine brightly during the 2024 Olympic Games.”

 

KIM Joo Won, PARK Jae Min, SUNWOO Ye Kwon, YUN Sung Bin, CHOI Min Jeong, and Other Stars of K-Culture and K-Sports to Promote Gangwon 2024 Winter Youth Olympic Games as Ambassadors

 

KIM Joo Won, PARK Jae Min, SUNWOO Ye Kwon, YUN Sung Bin, and CHOI Min Jeong will join KIM Yuna and KIM Ye Ri as new ambassadors. Ballerina KIM Joo Won has been helping young Koreans grow through culture and art by leading the Dance Team of Dreams. Pianist SUNWOO Ye Kwon serves as artistic director for the Korean Young Pianist series, helping young musicians hone their musical prowess. They are expected to boost the appeal of K-culture showcased through the games. PARK Jae Min made a name for himself as a winter sports expert after covering the snowboard event as a commentator during the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics. With this, he plans to actively engage in public relations activities to demonstrate his love for the 2024 Olympic Games. Also joining the PR efforts are YUN Sung Bin, the skeleton gold medalist from the PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympics Games, and CHOI Min Jeong, who won a gold medal in short track speed skating at the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games.

 

 Cultural Event Director Group and Advisory Group Working toward Cultural Olympic Showcasing the beauty of K-Culture

 

YANG Jeong Woong and OH Jang Hwan were appointed as Executive Director and Executive Producer of the Cultural Event Director Group, and the Cultural Event Advisory Group welcomed Director SONG Seung Hwan at the Convergence Institute for Culture, Arts, and Media of Sungkyunkwan University, Korean National Ballet Artistic Director KANG Sue Jin, Professor LEE Do Hun at Hongik University Graduate School of Film and Digital Media, Seoul Performance Arts Company President LEE Yu Ri, and Korea Football Association Vice President KIM Ki Hong. YANG Jeong Woong, who also helmed the opening ceremony for the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Games, plans to commit his directorial prowess to organizing cultural events highlighting the beauty of K-culture.

 

YANG will be aided by other experts in culture, art, and sports event organization to ensure the success of the games, including SONG Seung Hwan, who served as the executive director for the opening and closing ceremonies of the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Games. The Cultural Event Advisory Group plans to spare no effort in ensuring that the Gangwon 2024 Winter Youth Olympic Games become a cultural Olympic festival that captivates the hearts of young people around the globe.

 

 A Celebratory Talk Show to Review the Status of Preparations and Root for National Athletes

 

The appointment ceremony was accompanied by a talk show to root for the success of the winter games. In the first session of the show, Minister PARK Bo Gyoon overviewed the preparation status for the games with Korean Sports and Olympic Committee President LEE Kee Heung, Organising Committee Chair JIN Jong Oh, Ambassador KIM Yuna, and Advisory Group Chair SONG Seung Hwan, and reviewed what needs to be done for the success of the Olympic Games. In Session 2, Organising Committee Chair LEE Sang Hwa, Ambassadors LIM Joo Won, SUNWOO Ye Kown, YUN Sung Bin, and CHOI Min Jeong, together with the Youth Supporters, delivered messages of support and friendly advice while sharing their own plans to promote the games.

 

 A Sports Festival for Young People around the World, “Bringing the World Together in K-Culture and Sports”

 

Executive Director YANG Jeong Woong shared a video introducing the goals and concept of the opening ceremony. According to Director YANG, the ceremony will show the limitless imagination, creativity, and energy of K-culture, guided by the goal of “Bringing the World Together in K-Culture and Sports.” He also stressed the importance of bringing the world together after the COVID-19 pandemic and sharing the freedom to follow one’s dream.

 

“The ceremony will deliver a message about the value of young people’s infinite dreams and possibilities as they pursue their passion,” said Director YANG. He added, “We plan to fill the ceremony with the jovial and happy energy created by young people themselves, instead of something created by older generations based on their ideas of what the youth desires.” With Director YANG at the helm and numerous experts joining to lend a hand, the Gangwon 2024 Youth Winter Olympic Games are expected to be a sports festival that showcases the charm of K-culture, enabling young athletes from 70 countries to revel in its excitement.
