- Members to identify and report inaccurate information about Korea overseas and promote “K-Content”

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (Minister CHAE Hwi-young, MCST) will hold a launch ceremony for the “21st Korea Correct Information Ambassadors” (“Ambassadors”) on August 6 (Thursday) at 2:00 p.m. at the Korean Culture and Information Service (KOCIS) Center on the 10th floor of the Korea Press Center, officially marking the start of their activities.

The Ambassadors are a group of civilian supporters who identify and report inaccurate information about Korea found overseas and promote accurate information about the country. Since the program was launched in 2013 under the name “Friends of Korea,” a total of 784 members have participated over the past decade or so through a flexible system of online and offline activities.

40 Young People Living in 11 Countries, Including Indonesia, the United Kingdom, and Türkiye, Selected; Share of International Members Reaches 30% amid Growing Global Interest in Korea

Members of the 21st cohort of the Ambassadors were selected through an open call held for approximately five weeks beginning June 1. A total of 40 members—28 Korean nationals and 12 foreign nationals—were selected for their deep understanding of Korea and excellent foreign language skills. In particular, 17 members living in 11 countries, including Indonesia, the United Kingdom, and Türkiye, are expected to carry out activities across time zones and geographic boundaries. In addition, foreign nationals account for over 30% of the cohort for the first time, demonstrating that growing global interest in Korea is translating into participation in the Ambassadors.

The ceremony will include networking activities to foster camaraderie among members, presentations by members on their aspirations, and activity training. Overseas-based members will participate online.

A Wide Range of Activities Planned for the 10th Anniversary of “FACTS: KOREA”; Ambassadors to Promote the Distinctive Appeal of “K-Content”

Over the next five months, the 21st cohort of the Ambassadors will take the lead in reporting inaccurate information about Korea and sharing accurate information through “FACTS: KOREA” (www.factsaboutkorea.go.kr), operated by the MCST. In particular, to mark the 10th anniversary of the launch of “FACTS: KOREA” this September, a variety of activities are planned, including the production of short videos featuring members’ firsthand accounts of their activities and online events. Furthermore, this cohort includes many members specializing in cultural and artistic fields such as media communication, traditional music, and fashion, and they are expected to showcase the distinctive appeal of “K-Content” to audiences around the world in diverse ways.
