Twenty key tasks discussed to successfully host the 2024 Gangwon Winter Youth Olympics

The 2nd Vice Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism held a meeting to check the preparations for the games with the Organizing Committee and Gangwon Provincial Government
CHO Yong Man, the 2nd Vice Minister of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (Minister PARK Bo-gyoon, MCST) met with officials from the Gangwon 2024 Organizing Committee, Gangwon Provincial Government, and officials from the host cities (Gangneung, PyeongChang, Jeongseon, and Hoengseong) on May 11 (Thur) to check the preparations and discuss major issues of the Gangwon 2024 Youth Olympic Games.
The inspection included 14 priorities of the Organizing Committee, including reviewing the financial situation of the Youth Olympics and promoting marketing to generate new financial revenue, hosting the Cultural Olympics using the charm of K-culture, supporting athlete-centered competition operations, and providing reliable accommodation, food, and beverage services, as well as the 6 priorities of Gangwon Province, including managing disaster and safety measures and responding to emergency medical and health care.
In addition, various government ministries and agencies shared the cooperation needs to ensure the success of the Olympics and seek solutions centered on the MCST, the leading ministry of this event. Moreover, to promote practical cooperation across ministries based on the results of this meeting, the “Working Committee for Supporting International Athletic Games” under the International Athletic Games Support Act will be held in May under the Vice Minister, and related issues will be reported to the “Sports Policy Committee” chaired by the Prime Minister.
According to the 2nd Vice Minister CHO Yong Man, “With about nine months left before the Games, an important key to successfully hosting the 2024 Gangwon Winter Youth Olympics is for each relevant organization to share the progress in a timely manner and seek ways to cooperate.” He also added, “The government will actively support and communicate smoothly with the Organizing Committee and Gangwon province.”
