Korea Shares Cultural Policy Direction at the G20 Culture Ministers’ Meeting

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (Minister PARK Bo Gyoon, MCST) introduced Korea’s cultural policy direction at the G20 Culture Ministers’ Meeting on August 26 (Sat). The Ministry emphasized international collaboration to practice universal values such as freedom and solidarity through cultural exchanges. Also, they sought support from member countries for the bid to host the “World EXPO 2030 Busan.” The meeting was held at the Taj Ganges Varanasi Hotel in Varanasi, India.

Paving the Way for the Globalization of K-Picture Books through newly established “Korea Picture Book Award”

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (Minister PARK Bo Gyoon, MCST), along with the Publication Industry Promotion Agency of Korea (President KIM Jun Hee, KPIPA) established the “Korea Picture Book[1] Award,” which embodies Korea’s reputation and expertise. The award aims to enhance the domestic and international recognition of local picture book authors and their works and provide integrated support for exports. Recognizing the elevated global status of K-Picture Books, including recent significant international awards[2] and export achievements by domestic picture book authors, MCST has established a prestigious domestic picture book award and devised strategies for integrated export support.

Cheong Wa Dae (Blue House), Home of the People, Colored With K-Classical Melodies

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MCST), in collaboration with the Korean National Symphony Orchestra and the Korea National Opera, will host the K-classical music performance “2023 Blue House Concert” at the Cheong Wa Dae helipad on September 9 (Sat) at 7:30 p.m. and September 10 (Sun) at 5:00 p.m. “This is the second autumn after the Blue House was returned to the people, and the ‘2023 Blue House Concert’ will provide a unique addition with the captivating autumn scenery of the Blue House and the beautiful melodies of K-classical music,” said Minister PARK Bo Gyoon.

MCST to provide meticulous support to Korean Athletes competing for 2022 Asian Games

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (Minister PARK Bo Gyoon, MCST) Second Vice Minister JANG Mi Ran visited the Jincheon National Training Center on August 16 (Wed) to encourage the national team who are dedicated to training for the opening (on September 23) of the “19th Asian Games Hangzhou 2022” (Asian Games). The Vice Minister first received a briefing on the athletes’ training. Having an experience in the training center as a national representative herself, she expressed her commitment to meticulously attend to the needs of the athletes from their perspective. She also emphasized transforming the Jincheon National Training Center into a world-class facility with the best training environment.

K-Content Export Opportunities Grow through the Largest-Ever BCWW

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (Minister PARK Bo Gyoon, MCST) in partnership with the Korea Creative Content Agency, hosts the Broadcast Worldwide (BCWW) 2023 from August 16 (Wed) to August 18 (Fri) at COEX (Samseong-dong, Seoul). Since its inaugural event in 2001, BCWW has consistently grown, becoming Asia’s premier broadcasting content market. Over the past two decades, it has driven K-content exports, providing a platform for local and international broadcasting industry stakeholders to exchange insights. Last year marked a significant milestone, as the first offline event after COVID-19 led to tremendous success, with record-breaking contracts worth USD 73.84 million (approx. KRW 94.4 billion), more than double the previous year’s figures.
