- Image-based content covering transportation options in Seoul and to other regions, payment methods, and booking procedures, produced in English, Japanese, and Chinese
- Distributed starting May 29 through VisitKorea, Korea’s overseas tourism promotion platform; the social media channels of KTO overseas offices; and tourist information centers nationwide
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (Minister CHAE Hwi-young, MCST), together with the Korea Tourism Organization (KTO), will distribute image-based content, starting May 29 (Friday), to help international tourists use Korea’s public transportation with ease. Produced in the languages of major inbound markets—English, Japanese, and Chinese (Traditional and Simplified)—the content covers transportation options for getting around Seoul and traveling to other regions, payment methods, and online booking procedures.
The newly produced multilingual transportation information content consists of three types in total. The first is a Transportation Flowchart by Traveler Type, which provides an easy overview of transportation options along routes from the airport to tourist attractions in Seoul or to other regions. The second is a guide to payment methods and procedures for major modes of transportation, including rail, airport buses, subways, buses, and taxis. In particular, this guide includes information that foreign tourists often ask about, such as whether overseas credit cards can be used. The third is a guide on how to use Korea’s leading mobile apps for rail booking, taxi hailing, and route navigation that help foreign visitors travel more conveniently. It provides detailed step-by-step instructions, from downloading the app onward, so that even first-time foreign users can easily follow along. All content is centered on simple explanations and visual images, designed to be intuitive and easy to understand without language barriers.
The Multilingual Transportation Information Content will be actively promoted through the transportation menu on the VisitKorea website, Korea’s overseas tourism promotion platform, and through the social media (SNS) channels of the KTO’s overseas offices. In addition, QR codes linking to the content will be installed in phases at tourist information centers nationwide, and the content will also be distributed to local governments and member companies of the public-private consultative body on tourism and transportation.[1]
An MCST policy official said, “We hope that foreign tourists visiting Korea for the first time will be able to feel more confident using public transportation through this Multilingual Transportation Information Content.” The official added, “The MCST will continue to provide reliable multilingual transportation information to create an environment in which foreign visitors can travel throughout Korea more conveniently and enjoyably.”
