The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (Minister PARK Bo Gyoon, MCST) together with Busan Metropolitan City (Mayor PARK Heong-joon), and the Busan Contents Market Organizing Committee (Organizing Committee) will host the “ Busan Contents Market (BCM) 2022” from June 8 (Wed) both online and offline. This offline event will be held at the Busan Exhibition & Convention Center (BEXCO) from June 8 (Wed) to 10 (Fri), and the online event will be held from June 8 (Wed) to 24 (Fri) on the official website (www.ibcm. tv).

With the world paying close attention to original and high-quality content such as “Squid Game” and “Pachinko” and thanks to the lowered physical barriers to enjoying content, the BCM 2022 will be held under the theme of “Your story is our story”. The event will impart a message to the world that quality content knows no borders, bringing people together for common feelings of empathy and solidarity.

In particular, the BCM 2022, marking its 16th anniversary this year, resumes its face-to-face operations in earnest by inviting overseas buyers for the first time in three years since the COVID-19 outbreak. Three domestic national broadcasting stations (KBS, MBC, and SBS), on top of roughly 700 people from over 400 companies from 43 countries, including EBS, CJENM, JTBC, online video service operators, and distributors, will take part in various programs, including B2B markets, funding, academic conferences, and other related events.

A session for pitching will also be held to present works targeting overseas investment firms in drama, animation, film, youth content, and nurturing local producers that have passed the screening by an investment screening team of domestic and foreign experts. Various academic conferences sharing the latest trends in the broadcasting and video industries are also planned. On June 9 (Thur), the production team of Apple TV's “Pachinko” are invited to share behind stories of the production process and what happened on the set, and more hidden stories under the theme of “Global Platform Era and its Challenges”. Darcy Parquet, a movie “Parasite” translator, will present on the topic of “Considerations on mistranslation controversy surrounding subtitle translations for over-the-top (OTT) platforms”.

A discussion forum to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between Korea and China will be held under the theme of “Advancement and New Possibilities of Korea-China Drama Exchanges and Cooperation”. Various speakers will talk about global content industry trends such as sustainable content leading climate change, expanded virtual world, and NFT, and discuss ways to create new opportunities.

Events to be held on the sidelines of the BCM 2022 include a market-linked preview of broadcast format and production presentation, a business briefing session by the Chinese online video platform iQIYI, followed by lectures from producers of “All Of Us Are Dead”, “Juvenile Justice”, and “Girls' High School Mystery Class”, which are playing on the online video platforms of Netflix and TVing. The lectures will be about changes in the platforms and the evolution of the production market based on examples of their works.
