Introduction

The National Museum of Korean Contemporary History, which opened on December 26th, 2012, is the first national museum solely dedicated to the Korean modern and contemporary history. It collects, preserves, researches and exhibits objects related to the history of modern and contemporary Korea.

It has four permanent exhibition halls which cover the period from the late 19th century to the present : Exhibition Hall 1 ‘Prelude to the Republic of Korea', Exhibition Hall 2 ‘Foundation of the Republic of Korea', Exhibition Hall 3 ‘Development of the Republic of Korea' and Exhibition Hall 4 ‘Modernization and Korea's Vision of Future'.

The Museum has a Children’s Museum and a special exhibition gallery which enables visitors to explore the Korean modern and contemporary history through various themes and topics. It also provides diverse education programs and cultural events.
